Mini-A8 Compact GPS Tracker. User Manual

Thank you for purchasing the Mini-A8 GPS tracker.

    General Information

    Mini-A8 GPS Tracker User Manual

The Mini-A8 GPS tracker is used to monitor the location of valuable items that may be stolen or lost. It can be used to track the coordinates of a car, motorcycle, scooter, bicycle, quadcopter, luggage, or even a person or a pet.

Additionally, the Mini-A8 GPS tracker provides the ability to monitor audio within a radius of up to 8 meters.

The SOS button allows an emergency call to a pre-programmed number.

    Preparation for Operation

On the left side of the device, there is a micro-USB port; on the opposite side, there is a red SOS button. On the back of the device, there is a slot for a SIM card. To open it, slide the cover.

To start operation, insert a SIM card from a GSM mobile operator into the Mini-A8 GPS tracker slot. The SIM card should be inserted with the rectangular end first, not the beveled corner. The SIM card format is Mini-SIM.

    Note

: If the SIM card is protected by a PIN code, insert it into a mobile phone first and disable the lock.

Mini-A8 GPS Tracker SIM Card Slot

Activate the SIM card using a mobile phone. Apply the GPRS internet settings received in the message from your mobile service provider.

Open the cover on the back panel of the tracker and insert the activated SIM card into the slot. After the SIM card is installed, the tracker will turn on automatically (the red indicator will light up). After inserting the card into the device, wait a few seconds until the red light indicator starts flashing. When the indicator lights up continuously, this means that the card has been accepted and recognized by the GSM device. The indicator will remain steadily lit for about 20 seconds and then turn off. The device is ready for operation.

Operating Principle of the Mini-A8 GPS Tracker

The tracker operates on the principle of an answering device that automatically picks up incoming calls. The automatic call function (VOX (voice-operated exchange mode)) enables notification of the tracker owner when a conversation or noise occurs within the microphone’s operating range.

The Mini-A8 GPS beacon is equipped with two highly sensitive microphones and is controlled via mobile communication. The GPS tracker detects sound within a radius of up to 8 meters. The tracker is not equipped with a noise suppression mode, which makes it possible to hear voices even at a considerable distance from the sound source to the device.

    Power Supply

The device is turned on and off by inserting or removing the SIM card. The Mini-A8 GPS tracker powers on automatically when the SIM card is inserted into the slot, as it closes the power contacts. A red LED indicator is located near the SIM card slot. When powered on, after the device completes loading, it remains steadily lit. Connect the tracker to a charger (not included) using a micro-USB charging cable. The approximate battery charging time is 2–6 hours. The autonomous operating time is up to 7 days.

    Phone Authorization

To authorize a phone, send an SMS with the number of the phone to be authorized to the number linked to the SIM card of the tracker, placing the letters “SQ” before the digits. From that point, the Mini-A8 GPS tracker functions will be available only from the authorized phone.

Important! Set the number binding only after verifying all other commands. You can authorize up to four numbers by using the asterisk “*” symbol, for example: SQ123456789*SQ112345678. If there are authorized numbers, control of the tracker from unauthorized numbers will be impossible. To cancel authorization, send the letters “SQ” without a phone number to the tracker’s number.

After this, if you call the tracker number, you will receive an SMS in English stating: “Authorization successful, device XXXX, password XXXX, http://e5ex.com/u/XXX.” On the same website, you can download the application for your smartphone; iOS and Android are supported. To enable internet monitoring (your tariff plan must support mobile internet, maximum 30 MB per month), send an SMS in the format “DKJK” (to disable monitoring, send “GBJK”).

    ..

    GPS Coordinates

To obtain the tracker’s coordinates, send an SMS with the text “GPS” to the device. In response, it will send an SMS containing the coordinates (or a link to a website). Before sending the request, check the SMS sending and receiving settings on both SIM cards, as well as the balance on the SIM card inserted in the tracker. If the tracker’s balance is insufficient, the SMS with the coordinates will not be sent.

Location of the Mini-A8 GPS Tracker

Send an SMS with the letters “DW” to the device number. In less than a minute, you will receive a message on your smartphone indicating the exact geographical location of the device. In addition, the device will send a link to the location.

The Mini-A8 model does not have a GPS module; coordinate determination is carried out using cellular network transmitters. The accuracy of the coordinates depends on the number of the mobile operator’s transmitting stations located near the device. The links received can be used to view the current location coordinates of the device and its position on Google Maps. The location accuracy in open areas does not exceed 3 meters, but in dense urban environments it may reach several hundred meters.

Control of Call and Auto-Call Modes

The Mini-A8 GPS tracker is controlled via SMS commands. SMS-based control configuration is possible only after a test call has been made to the device. When you call the device, the answering function should automatically activate. After it is triggered, end the call and immediately send an SMS to the device with the following command:
    - command 0000 – disables sound activation;
    - command 1111 – enables sound activation.

The sound activation mode works as follows: if the sound level exceeds a certain threshold value (not adjustable), the device will call the last number from which it was called and activate the microphone for audio transmission.

    Setting the Microphone Sensitivity Level

Send an SMS command “DB” followed by a sensitivity value from 1 to 100 (for example: DB50) to set the microphone sensitivity. 1 – minimum sensitivity, 100 – maximum sensitivity.

    Emergency SOS Call

If you press and hold the SOS button located on the tracker for 10 seconds, or press it three times for 3 seconds each, the Mini-A8 GPS beacon will make a call to the last incoming number that called or sent an SMS to it. A distinctive feature of the emergency call is that the device will continue to call until the call is answered. Before using the device in emergency button mode, you must activate it by sending an SMS command “SOS.” To disable the SOS function, simply remove and reinsert the SIM card.

    Other Commands

Command “ZDKQ” – vibration (movement) alert.

Command “ZDGB” – deactivation of the previous function.

    Possible Malfunctions

Below are the main malfunctions encountered by users:

No connection with the tracker. If, when turning on the device, you notice that the red light is on but there is no connection, make sure that the SIM card is inserted in the correct orientation. If not, remove it and insert it again.

Startup failure. This problem may occur if the battery charge is insufficient.

No GSM signal. Check the battery charge level and the correct installation of the SIM card.

Communication failure. This usually occurs when attempting to contact the tracker from an unauthorized phone number. Try restarting the GSM tracker and reconfiguring the authorized numbers.

If a control malfunction occurs, also check whether the authorized number is set correctly.

GPS coordinates not determined. In this case, ensure that the device is not shielded by metallic objects.
